Hardiness Zone: 5b Group/Class: Climbing Rose Description: This vigorous rose is a hardy, reaching, large climbing rose producing showy clusters of cupped shaped double yellow flowers, suffused with orange, pink, red & coral as the flowers grow older; excellent for arbors and trellises; fertilize regularly. Ornamental Features Rose (Climbing), Joseph's Coat features showy pink flowers with white overtones, yellow eyes and coral-pink edges along the branches from late spring to late fall, which emerge from distinctive red flower buds. The flowers are excellent for cutting. It has dark green deciduous foliage which emerges dark red in spring. The oval compound leaves do not develop any appreciable fall color. Landscape Attributes Rose (Climbing), Joseph's Coat is a multi-stemmed deciduous woody vine with a twining and trailing habit of growth. Its average texture blends into the landscape, but can be balanced by one or two finer or coarser trees or shrubs for an effective composition. This woody vine will require occasional maintenance and upkeep. Each spring, cut back all dead and two-year old canes to the ground, leaving only last year's growth standing. It is a good choice for attracting bees to your yard. It is not particular as to soil type, but has a definite preference for acidic soils. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments.
