Description:

This variety has a very broad, spreading vase shape; interesting peeling bark and rich red fall color; quite hardy, low maintenance and trouble-free, an excellent choice for street plantings under utility lines

Ornamental Features

Zelkova Tree, Wireless has forest green deciduous foliage on a tree with a round habit of growth. The serrated pointy leaves turn an outstanding red in the fall.

Landscape Attributes

Zelkova Tree, Wireless is a deciduous tree with a more or less rounded form. Its relatively fine texture sets it apart from other landscape plants with less refined foliage.

This is a relatively low maintenance tree, and is best pruned in late winter once the threat of extreme cold has passed. Deer don't particularly care for this plant and will usually leave it alone in favor of tastier treats. It has no significant negative characteristics.

Planting & Growing

Zelkova Tree, Wireless will grow to be about 24 feet tall at maturity, with a spread of 36 feet. It has a low canopy with a typical clearance of 5 feet from the ground, and is suitable for planting under power lines. It grows at a medium rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to live for 70 years or more.

This tree should only be grown in full sunlight. It does best in average to evenly moist conditions, but will not tolerate standing water. This plant should be periodically fertilized throughout the active growing season with a specially-formulated acidic fertilizer. It is not particular as to soil type or pH. It is somewhat tolerant of urban pollution. This is a selected variety of a species not originally from North America.
