Ornamental Features Maple, (Hedge) Queen Elizabeth is primarily valued in the landscape for its decidedly oval form. It has dark green deciduous foliage. The lobed leaves turn yellow in fall. However, the fruit can be messy in the landscape and may require occasional clean-up. Landscape Attributes Maple, (Hedge) Queen Elizabeth is a dense deciduous tree with a shapely oval form. Its average texture blends into the landscape, but can be balanced by one or two finer or coarser trees or shrubs for an effective composition. This is a relatively low maintenance tree, and is best pruned in late winter once the threat of extreme cold has passed. It has no significant negative characteristics. They have a corky bark, the flowers are insignificant before leaves, and it does have a few Samara (Seeds), that are double winged about 1 1/4 inches long.
