Hardiness Zone: 4a Group/Class: Climbing Rose Description: This vigorous rose is a hardy, reaching climbing rose producing showy clusters of intense purple-magenta blooms; excellent for arbors and trellises; fertilize regularly. Ornamental Features Rose (Climbing), Stormy Weather features showy lightly-scented purple flowers with hot pink overtones, yellow eyes and white centers along the branches from late spring to mid fall. The flowers are excellent for cutting. It has grayish green deciduous foliage. The oval compound leaves do not develop any appreciable fall color. Landscape Attributes Rose (Climbing), Stormy Weather is a multi-stemmed deciduous woody vine with a twining and trailing habit of growth. Its average texture blends into the landscape, but can be balanced by one or two finer or coarser trees or shrubs for an effective composition. This woody vine will require occasional maintenance and upkeep. Each spring, cut back all dead and two-year old canes to the ground, leaving only last year's growth standing. It is a good choice for attracting bees to your yard. This plant should be periodically fertilized throughout the active growing season with a specially-formulated acidic fertilizer. It is not particular as to soil type, but has a definite preference for acidic soils. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments.
